Playbook and BlackBerry connections via Bridge Is Vulnerable To Hacker

Security vulnerability in the BlackBerry Playbook makes this tablet can be broken by hackers. What did the hackers dothat lets them get all the data when Playbook is connected to the BlackBerry smartphone.

Facts about the security vulnerability in the BlackBerry Playbook as revealed by researchers at the Intrepidus Group. They found a way to break into Playbook by exploiting security weaknesses through a connection between the Playbook and BlackBerry smartphones. That way the hacker will be able to access email users even include spyware to spy on user activities with their Playbook.

Researchers Zach Lanier and Ben Nell reveals flaws in BlackBerry Playbook at the Infiltrate conference that took place in South Beach, Miami (12-13 Jan).

In a post written by Dennis Fisher of Kaspersky Lab Security News mentioned the following things:

Security Vulnerability in BlackBerry Playbook allows hackers to eavesdrop on the connection between the Playbook and BlackBerry smartphones. These connections, manufactured via Bluetooth using the Bridge application designed by RIM to simplify user access to corporate mail, calendar and other data in the Playbook.

The researchers managed to locate and retrieve authentication token that is sent between two devices that take place during the Bridge connection, as an outside user, connect to the Playbook and the user’s email access and other important information. Key findings of these researchers is the fact that the OS that runs on Playbook putting authentication token during Bridge in a place that can be read by anyone who knows how to find it.

“When the Bridge is active, the token is in a place that can be read by all people around the world. Can read the file. All that is causing a problem in the Bridge, “said Lanier.

In addition to Bridgeweakness, Fisher said that the security research team also found the names of files in the BlackBerry app store that can be predicted. It will allow users to extend the file name and download any desired application.
