Strategy Analytics (SA) make a report from their latest research results in the global handset market. SA said that the global mobile phone shipments in 2011 rose 14% from 2010. Estimated that there are 1.6 billion mobile phones around the world sent in the year 2011. It means, the total mobile phone shipments was more than one-by-five total human population around the world who reach 7 billion people in October 2011 (data based Population Reference Bureau). Another report made by the GSMA called the 6 billion mobile connections occurred worldwide in 2011.

Strategy Analytics says the overall mobile phones shipments in 2011 rose 11% to reach 445 million units in the last quarter alone. 155 million of that amount is a smartphone. Nokia called remained in the top position as a manufacturer of mobile phones that send the most throughout 2011 with a total of 113.5 million units. In the second place there is the Samsung with 95 million units of mobile phones. Apple is behind Samsung with total iPhone shipments reached 37 million units.

Nokia is also referred to as the most popular mobile phone manufacturers have been sent throughout the year with 417.1 million mobile phones around the world. Meanwhile, Samsung managed to sell 327.4 million units of mobile phones and Apple’s iPhone to 93 million units sold to distributors.

Analyst Tom Kang of the SA said that the achievement of Apple in 2011 is managed to sell almost 2x iPhones were sold in 2010. “2012 is the fifth year for Apple to compete in the global handset market. Apple is quite successful with sending more than 100 million units later this year. China will become an important market for Apple in 2012 and we expect the market domination by Apple could expand rapidly despite the many competitors who imitate Apple products. “
