Microsoft Shows Windows 8 Sophisticated Sensor

Windows has largely been on desktops, laptops and smartphones, but tablet computer is a prime target for Windows 8. Problems to be solved by improving the performance of Windows 8 is a sensor that is owned by smartphones and tablets.

Windows 8 will feature an endorsement on the ambient light sensor and accelerometer, compass and gyroscope, which will be incorporated into “Sensor Fusion” to improve sensor performance. “Sensor Fusion”, as Microsoft calls it, not just adjust the screen brightness according to surrounding lighting conditions as in Windows 7, but “Sensor Fusion” is much more interesting than that.

One test that Microsoft did was creating a virtual reality application that lets you look around the room by using a tablet (think Street Maps with compass mode on).

But what they do with the accelerometer and compass is still not quite satisfactory, then they add a gyroscope. They managed to combine all three readings of this sensor so as to provide better data applications. Most of the data that beats completed by hardware sensors prior to the processor and then sent as soon as the application receives the data. This can ease the burden of the CPU and reduce power usage.
